Dr. Simon Thomas brings a wealth of experience across all aspects of fisheries to the table. With a history in both commercial and recreational fishing, coupled with his work as a Post Doctoral Research Associate, he can be relied upon to separate the science backed fact from the purely anecdotal. 

Simon has led on critical work within UK fisheries, recently being part of a strong team progressing the Pollack FISP project, helping recreational and commercial fishers better understand our pollack stocks and the impacts of our interactions with them. 

Simon’s real passion lays with sharks, and his work for Shark Hub UK and as an honorary biologist for the Shark Angling Club of Great Britain has led to much improved understanding of the species in our waters, along with a real culture shift in how anglers target them and thereafter handle and care for the fish before their return, notably rarely seeing a large shark removed from the water these days.
