The UK government’s Call for Evidence, published on 12 June 2025 and running until 7 August 2025, seeks input on boosting private-sector investment in nature recovery across England.
It highlights that beyond public funding, businesses must be incentivised to fund environmental improvements, especially where they rely on water quality and healthy habitats.
For anglers, this is particularly significant: the initiative invites views on clean and plentiful water under “Outcome 1”, focusing on restoring rivers, lakes, and coastal waters . The government is asking which sectors (like agriculture, utilities, and developers) could contribute financially to catchment-based restoration, what barriers (e.g. funding mechanisms or regulation) limit their investment, and which existing actions by water companies could unlock further private support.
Inputs from anglers, who depend on healthy, oxygen-rich waterways, stable fish stocks, and pollution-free environments, could shape policies or financial models that encourage landowners and businesses to protect and improve aquatic habitats.
YourAnglingVoice will be providing a response and will shortly publish it here.
It is worth noting that this is a call for evidence, rather than a ‘consultation’. The nuance to this is that it is even more evidence based than a typical consultation which would lean on public sentiment.
Helping marine licence applicants secure stakeholder support by meaningfully engaging the UK’s recreational sea angling community.
Professional consultation responses that give coastal communities and interest groups a stronger voice in marine decision-making.
Helping marine brands and events successfully connect with the UK’s thriving recreational sea angling sector.
